Sanchez not practicing with team

Jets quarterback Mark Sanchez, who sprained the posterior cruciate ligament in his right knee Week 13 against the Buffalo Bills, did not practice with the team during the portion of practice open to the media. In fact, Sanchez was not even out on the field.

Earlier in the week, Jets coach Rex Ryan had expressed optimism that the rookie who has started every game for the Jets this season would be ready to go Sunday in Tampa, Fla.

The 6-6 Jets face the 1-11 Tampa Bay Buccaneers in a game crucial for the Jets if they want to remain in the AFC Wild Card race and the hunt for the AFC East Division title.

More should be known on Sanchez's status when coach Rex Ryan meets with the media later Wednesday.
