Sidney Rice May Not Play This Season

There was some feeling that Sidney Rice was going to play last Sunday against Chicago but the Vikings' leading receiver from a year ago felt enough soreness after a week of practice that he didn't feel comfortable giving the go-ahead. Coach Brad Childress has made it clear in recent weeks that this will be Rice's call.

Rice, who is receiving advice from agent Drew Rosenhaus, faces a dilemma at this point as to whether it's worth coming back for this season. The Vikings could be 3-7 if they lose Sunday to the Packers and if Rice sits out of that game, he might feel that returning to play six games for a team going nowhere isn't worth the risk.

Rice stands to become a free agent after this season and likely already cost himself money by not having hip surgery earlier in the offseason and thus returning in time to play most of this year. He might feel the wisest choice for him now will be to present his 2009 stats (83 receptions, 1,312 yards, eight touchdowns) to potential employers, with the assurance that he's completely healthy and ready to go.
