Spiller snaps to be watched closely

Bills rookie RB C.J. Spiller will be starting on Sunday, but Buffalo’s coaching staff will be keeping a close eye on just how much work he gets this season.

“I think we have to be very smart about how we handle him, especially early in the year,” said head coach Chan Gailey. ”I think it’s incumbent upon us to make sure we don’t throw him out there and work him overly early in the season.

“Now that being said if everybody stays healthy and everything goes according to plan that should never be an issue with the backs that we have.”

Spiller was asked what he thought about being a 20-25 carry guy and those outside observers that think he can’t handle it over 16 games.

“That’s their opinion,” he said. ”Everyone has their own opinion. I know what I can do as a player. I know what I did in the offseason to get my body prepared for this type of season. I know what I’ve done through OTAs and training camp and now the season is here. I never get down or let anyone else talk about my game. I know what I’m capable of doing. That doesn’t hurt my confidence at all when they say I can’t carry the ball 25 times. I just go out there and show them wrong.”

Fantasy Impact:

Spiller has a great opportunity this week with Fred Jackson banged up and likely limited on game day. We are currently projecting just over 12 carries and 5 receptions for the rookie back and should certainly be started in PPR formats.
