Nobody is going to question the toughness of Calvin Johnson.

The AC joint in his right shoulder is still causing him major discomfort and he had to leave the field three times Sunday.

But he didn't miss more than one play on any of those occasions.

In fact, he was dinged up on the second-down play of the Lions' game-winning scoring drive. His 9-yard reception gave the Lions a third-and-1 at the 10.

He sat out of the third-down play, an incomplete pass, then returned for the fourth-down play, catching a dart from quarterback Matthew Stafford between two defenders in the end zone.

Lions QB Matthew Stafford took full reps Wednesday and has been removed from the Loins injury report. Stafford is taking first-team reps, and fully expected to return under center for the Lions this week in a good matchup with the Redskins, who are allowing 292 passing yards per game.

It was mostly a healthy bunch of Lions participating in practice today (Tuesday).

Key participants were quarterback Matthew Stafford and middle linebacker DeAndre Levy. Stafford (shoulder) hasn’t played since the first half of the opener at Chicago and Levy (ankle, groin) has been in just one game (at the Vikings) all season.

Running back Jahvid Best (toe) was not going through early drills, but instead was running along the sidelines with a trainer.

Detroit Lions quarterback Shaun broke his left arm late in the first half of Sunday's 28-20 road loss to the New York Giants. Hill spent part of the second half on the sideline with his arm in a sling.

Hill was hit by Giants defensive tackle Barry Cofield on an incomplete pass to Kevin Smith. Hill immediately left the field and was replaced by Drew Stanton, who started the second half.

"Shaun Hill has a fracture in his forearm, his non-throwing arm," Lions coach Jim Schwartz said. "He wanted to go back in, but he had a hard time, no matter how we splinted it, trying to take a snap."

The Lions almost needed No. 3 quarterback Matthew Stafford, their regular starter, late in the game when Stanton was dinged. Stafford, who hasn't played since the season opener because of a shoulder injury, jogged on the field, but Stanton motioned that he was OK.

The Lions also lost linebacker Zack Follett, who was hospitalized after a violent helmet-to-helmet hit with a Giants player while covering a fourth-quarter kickoff return.

Schwartz said Follett was conscious and has movement in his limbs.

The Giants have now knocked out 4 QBs through six games -- Matt Moore, Jay Cutler, Todd Collins & now Shaun Hill.

There was essentially no change in the status of receiver Calvin Johnson or quarterback Matthew Stafford on Thursday. Both have right shoulder injuries. Johnson, who injured his AC joint, could play against the Giants on Sunday. Stafford, whose injury is considered a sprain, most likely won't.

"We will see when we get to Sunday," coach Jim Schwartz said about Johnson. "Anything that goes on during the week you have to temper, both optimistically and pessimistically. We are just trying to get him to Sunday and see where he is."

Johnson, as he was on Wednesday, was limited in practice Thursday. The difference was, he caught a few balls. Most of them, at least in the portion of practice the media was allowed to watch, were caught left-handed. He didn't raise his right arm past shoulder level.

"It's better," Johnson said. "The range of motion is better. But nothing will be determined until Saturday."

Schwartz still has not officially ruled Stafford out for Sunday, though there is no indication that he will be ready to play. He threw Wednesday and said he would throw again Friday. But he has yet to practice with the team.
