Steve L Smith disappointed after Week 3

Steve Smith sat quietly in his locker, fiddling with his phone, knowing the assembled mass of reporters were waiting to hear what he had to say.

The Carolina Panthers emotional wideout has blown his stack in similar situations, but was subdued in the locker room after the 20-7 loss to the Cincinnati Bengals.

Smith didn't catch a pass until midway through the fourth quarter, and finished with just three catches for 22 yards. That snapped a streak of five straight games with a touchdown going back to last year, but he was such a non-factor for most of Sunday it's hard to remember him scoring ever.

"I wouldn't necessarily call it frustrated; just disappointed, let down," Smith said of his day of inactivity. "If they throw a ball, they're going to throw me the ball. I've still got a job to do. I think I ran some pretty good routes. You've got to evaluate yourself. I'm a horrible quarterback, a terrible defensive back. I'm not going to tackle at linebacker. My best job is a wide receiver, and i'm going to run the routes they call.
