The Texans feel better about their running game because Arian Foster averaged six yards a carry in preseason. Foster, who played at Tennessee, was an undrafted free agent.
General manager Rick Smith gave Foster a two-year contract to keep him away from the Saints and Jets, among other teams.
"We saw a lot of talent, but there were obviously some knocks to keep him from being drafted," coach Gary Kubiak said. "I don't remember as much injuries as they were having a bad year at Tennessee.
"We took a chance on him, and he's kind of grown up. The talent's there. Hopefully, he'll keep it going."
• Kicker Kris Brown wore a boot around the locker room this week because he's suffering from plantar fasciitis. He's kicked with it before.
"Kris kicked (against Dallas) through his foot bothering him a little bit, so we're getting him rested," coach Gary Kubiak said about the boot. "He's kicked with it before."
As far as the kicking job goes, it looks Neil Rackers should win the job.
