New England Patriots receiver Wes Welker wore a thinner brace over his left knee in last Sunday’s win over the Vikings, which he said Friday was a welcome change.
Welker described his previous brace as big and clunky, and expressed hope that he could ultimately play without it. He said playing with the thinner brace was "much better."
Welker leads the Patriots with 40 receptions although he’s yet to return to top form as he recovers from a torn left ACL.
"We’re coming along – every week is a little bit better," Welker told reporters Friday when asked about his progress. "You get bumps and bruises along the way. Everybody has them. You just roll with it and keep on plugging along and kind of fight through it just like everybody else in this league."
As for Sunday’s game against the Browns, Welker stressed the importance of taking care of the football. That has been a strength of the offense, which has totaled six turnovers this season, one of which was a Hail Mary play.
Fantasy owners would love it if the thinner brace helps Welker fatten up his numbers. Welker hasn't been the same player this year, and this week is at 25 in our PPR rankings and 35 in our standard rankings.
