Zimmer: Vikings RB Adrian Peterson has a torn meniscus, timetable uncertain
Mike Zimmer to @DanBarreiroKFAN on Adrian Peterson: "He's got a torn meniscus." Timetable uncertain at this point. Vikings
Adam Schefter added that Zimmer did not rule Peterson out for Week 3, though that would be pretty surprising. Meniscus tears typically require surgery with a recovery of 2-4 weeks if it's a simple trim. So that's the timeline that we're working with right now. Waiver Wire Watch for Week 3 will be up soon, but be sure to check out John Paulsen's article to get an idea of how the Minnesota RB touches will be distributed while Peterson is sidelined. In short, Jerick McKinnon is the priority add, but Matt Asiata may return better value given his lower FAAB cost, especially in standard formats where his goal line touches are at a premium. More from our injury expert Russell Manalastas: " I'd be very pessimistic about him playing this week. Location of tear and size of tear really determines whether or not a player can return from a tear without needing surgery. Could he play with the tear? Sure, if his knee doesn't lock up on him and it doesn't cause more pain than he's already experiencing. But risk of doing additional damage could be a concern as well."
