WR vs. CB Matchups to Exploit & Avoid in DFS - Week 4
When it comes to selecting receivers in DFS, it’s important to understand who will cover them, as sometimes defense versus position stats alone don't tell the whole story. In addition, there can many times be defensive injuries that will have a significant, and perhaps hidden, effect on a receiver's matchup. Below we'll take a deeper look at the matchups that should help in your WR decisions for Week 4.
Note: Any unlisted matchups -- especially those of prominent WRs -- should generally be considered a push.
Miami Dolphins at Cincinnati Bengals (Thursday)
Exploit: Byron Maxwell has been benched, so Tony Lippett will be tasked with covering A.J. Green this week. Lippett's been mainly a special teamer this year, but did appear in 133 snaps last season, so a small sample of play. I also expect Xavien Howard could also see some time on Green or a safety over the top will be a strategy as well. I don't envy the assignment, trying to cover one of the NFL's elite.
Be cautious: Joshua Shaw has been a solid slot corner and will be assigned to Jarvis Landry. Shaw, in 201 coverage routes, is allowing just 0.12 fantasy points per route and fewer than three yards per catch. Landry is going to get peppered with targets this week, so opportunities will still be there.
Exploit: If you're playing the Thurs-Mon slate, DeVante Parker's matchup against Darqueze Dennard is a favorable one. Dennard is allowing 0.43 fantasy points per route and over 20 yards per catch.
