James Starks not only was ruled out for Sunday's game against the Dallas Cowboys, but the Green Bay Packers running back may miss several weeks because of a knee injury suffered this week.

Starks was downgraded from questionable to out following practice on Saturday. The veteran backup reported some pain in his knee after a workout Tuesday, and the initial diagnosis is a meniscus injury, according to a source. The Packers are still trying to determine the severity of the injury and a course of action for treatment, in part because Starks spent most of the week out of town to attend his grandmother's funeral. McCarthy also could use receivers Randall Cobb and Ty Montgomery out of the backfield, if necessary. Aaron Ripkowski would possibly be next up at RB.
