Chiefs head athletic trainer Rick Burkholder said running back Spencer Ware, who left the Chiefs’ 30-14 win over the Colts on Sunday because of a concussion, never got out of the second phase of the concussion testing.
That portion includes a SCAT — or a sports concussion assessment test — that includes memory recall, balance testing, symptom questioning and eye testing and is administered via iPad.
“When we got to the SCAT part of it, he didn’t do well enough to be able to return to play,” Burkholder said.

If Ware can’t play Sunday against the Jaguars, the Chiefs could sign one or both of their practice squad backs — Darrin Reaves and Zac Brooks — or seek help on the free-agent wire.
