Raiders QB Bruce Gradkowski tore the medial collateral ligament in his left knee on the first drive of the game. He partially tore the MCL in his right knee just before halftime, knocking him out of the game with the Raiders trailing 17-10.
One MCL injury can be endured if the player is tough enough. Two bad knees make it far less doable with no good leg on which to stand or plant. After all, one of Gradkowski's strengths is his mobility, and the MCL injuries negate that.
Cable concedes Gradkowski is "doubtful" for the Broncos game.
"I want to be definitive come Wednesday," Cable said of his delayed decision.
Cable was anything but definitive when asked about Russell's play. The offense went from 188 net yards gained with Gradkowski to 39 net yards with Russell, who was sacked six times, fumbled once and threw an interception.
Asked if Russell is the next starter in line, Cable punted - one sign of how shaken his confidence is in the player he long supported.
