Week 9 Essential NFL Practice News & Notes for Friday
Browns QB Cody Kessler (concussion) took full practice reps all week. Kessler will start Week 9. There were three games this season in which Kessler attempted 30 or more passes. In those games, Duke Johnson has averaged 5.0 catches, so he's a safe play in PPR formats. Over the past two years, Gary Barnidge's yardage with and without Kessler are about the same, though he hasn't been the same factor in the red zone this season. Terrelle Pryor has averaged 7.3 catches for 88 yards and 1.0 touchdown in three full games with Kessler, so no problems there. Corey Coleman played mostly with Robert Griffin III early in the season, so he's something of a wild card.
Colts QB Andrew Luck (right shoulder) took full practice reps on Friday after being limited earlier in the week. Luck is good to go to face the Packers.
Giants QB Ryan Nassib (right elbow, questionable) took limited practice reps all week and is questionable for Week 9.
Steelers QB Ben Roethlisberger (knee, questionable) took limited practice reps all week and is questionable for Week 9. Roethlisberger is on track to play, though it’s a tough matchup against the Ravens. Roethlisberger has one passing touchdown in his last three trips to Baltimore, and his home/away splits are pretty stark.
Cowboys QB Tony Romo (back, out) took limited practice reps again Friday and is out for Week 9. Dak Prescott will start for the foreseeable future.
Broncos QB Trevor Siemian (left shoulder) took full practice reps all week. Siemian was removed from the injury report so he’ll suit up against the Raiders.
Chiefs QB Alex Smith (head, ear, out) took limited practice reps all week and is out for Week 9. Smith apparently won’t play in Week 9. Nick Foles will get the start against the Jaguars, who are decent against the pass. Foles isn’t a bad streaming option after doing pretty well against the Colts (223 yards and two touchdowns on 22 attempts).
Seahawks QB Russell Wilson (knee, pectoral) took full practice reps Thursday. Wilson will play, though he's been very disappointing this season.
