Skins want RB Rob Kelley more involved

The Washington Redskins want Rob Kelley to be a bigger factor down the stretch, certainly more than he’s been in the last two games.

Kelley is coming off a 14-carry, 63-yard game in Sunday’s loss to Arizona. That’s not the ideal number of carries for coach Jay Gruden’s liking. It didn’t stem from needing to throw to catch up; rather, the Redskins attempted passes on nine of their first 10 plays in the 31-23 loss.

“There’s no doubt about it, we would like to get more of him involved,” Redskins coach Jay Gruden said. “We had a couple times [Sunday] where we actually had runs called and we got out of them because their safety was down and they were unblockable as far as the run was concerned. We ideally would like to get that running game going a little bit more -- more touches for Robert, because he’s been very good. We have got to make sure that we get him more involved, maintain the time of possession and stay more balanced.”

Fantasy Impact:

In Kelley’s first three starts, he rushed for 87, 97 and 137 yards. In his last two, it’s been 37 and 63 yards.
In order to keep the offense balanced, the Redskins would like to hand the ball to Rob Kelley more and let him run, the story said. They may be able to do just that this week against the Eagles. Last time the teams met, the Skins rushed for 230 yards led by Matt Jones.
