WR vs. CB Matchups to Exploit & Avoid in DFS - Wild Card Round
When it comes to selecting receivers in DFS, it’s important to understand who will cover them, as sometimes defense versus position stats alone don't tell the whole story. In addition, there can many times be defensive injuries that will have a significant, and perhaps hidden, effect on a receiver's matchup. Below we'll take a deeper look at the matchups that should help in your WR decisions for the Wild Card round. Now that the playoffs have arrived, the teams and defenses are better, however, there are holes to exploit.
Note: Any unlisted matchups -- especially those of prominent WRs -- should generally be considered a push. This article is also updated throughout the week as injuries and news breaks.
Oakland Raiders @ Houston Texans
Avoid: The Houston secondary has been the unheralded hero this season for this team. A.J. Bouye has been a top-five corner according to PFF, but has gone largely unnoticed. He’s covered the right side of the field on 79 percent of his routes, so he should spend most of his time on Amari Cooper. Bouye is giving up just 0.24 points per route and with Conor Cook getting the start, I’d consider avoiding the Oakland receiving group altogether this week.
