head coach Mike Singletary said Monday the team might have to try out some unemployed kickers after Joe Nedney strained his left hamstring during a third-quarter kickoff in Philadelphia on Sunday.
"It felt like I was hit by a sniper out there, which I wouldn't put past Philly fans," Nedney joked. He underwent an MRI exam Monday and would not speculate on whether he might be ready for Sunday's home finale against Detroit.
Neither would Singletary, who said Nedney's injury forced the coach to go for it on a couple of fourth-down plays in field-goal situations.
Asked if punter Andy Lee could handle the place-kicking, Singletary said, "I don't think so."
