Streaming Quarterbacks: Week 10 Fantasy Football Targets
Week 9 was a banner week for the QB streaming strategy. To be honest, the names did not elicit excitement, and owners had to just close their eyes and submit their lineups, but the match-ups played out swimmingly. All three candidates produced great results:
Jay Cutler (it happened) - 24.4 points
Jacoby Brissett - 19.5 points
Josh McCown - 16.9 points
In addition to these three names, we also gave you two more that we recommended ahead of these players but were not part of our official exercise, as they were owned in more than 40% of Yahoo! leagues. However, these two were owned in less than 55% of leagues, and if available, we told you to go this route:
Jared Goff - 28.4 points (QB1)
Tyrod Taylor - 26.9 points (QB2)
For the season, our top streaming picks are now averaging 23.5 fantasy points per game. That’s equivalent to the QB2 this year in FP/G and just behind DeShaun Watson’s 23.6. Watson, however, is out for the season, and our 23.5 top streaming pick average is ahead of the next best quarterback, Russell Wilson, who is averaging 22.4 FP/G. The average of all of our streaming picks this season is equivalent to QB8 in overall points.
Our standard for this exercise will always be to select only quarterbacks owned in fewer than 40 percent of Yahoo! leagues. We will use that standard as not to be accused of stretching the definition of “streamer” (plus, we like a challenge). It will also allow for similar potential on other sites.
We’ll focus on factors such as QB points per game, the opponent’s schedule-adjusted fantasy points allowed to quarterbacks (aFPA), and the Vegas implied team totals.
Here are those options for Week 10:
*Note - Eli Manning is a solid option this week, if available, as he faces the 49ers, a team that has allowed the 3rd-most fantasy points to opposing quarterbacks. Manning is owned in 45 percent of Yahoo! leagues.
Josh McCown (NYJ) @ TB
For the third straight week, Josh McCown is in play. The current QB10 is STILL owned in less than 40 percent of leagues, and his match-up this week is even better than last. Tampa Bay is allowing 18.9 fantasy points per game to opposing quarterbacks, 7th most in the league. The Bucs are also just 31st in our aFPA vs. QB rankings. There is no Vegas line yet on this game early in the week with Jameis Winston’s status in doubt, but I’d expect a respectable implied team total for the Jets. Over the past four weeks, McCown is averaging 20 FP/G, 6th most.
He is owned in 35% of Yahoo! leagues.
