Wanted to give you guys a quick preview of my story for tomorrow… I had a nice chat with Patriots running backs coach Ivan Fears, who did his first interview of the season. Of course, the topic veered over to Laurence Maroney’s four fumbles.
It’s safe to say, the assistant has emphasized the issue.
“We trust him to carry the ball, and we expect him to hold onto it just like anybody else,” Fears said. “He understands that’s very, very important. That’s something he’s got to work through. Keep working at it, keep emphasizing it, and have the guys go after him in practice. Do all you can to try to get him to concentrate on the ball.”
“I trust Laurence with the ball,” Fears said. “That, I do. I expect Laurence to go out there and play his butt off like everybody else and understanding the importance of carrying the ball and holding onto the ball. That’s part of the game. We wouldn’t be out there, he wouldn’t be out there if we didn’t feel that way.”
