IDP Waiver Wire: Week 2 Pickups and Matchup Plays
It didn't take long for the injury bug—no, more like the injury tarantula-hawk wasp—to bite. We found out we lost Keanu Neal for the season on Friday, and now, Deion Jones was also placed on IR, but he should return at some point this season. Either way, two significant defenders are already lost for a significant portion of the season. Below, I recommend players to target on the waiver wire of your IDP league this week, as well as a few of my favorite matchup plays based on my rankings.
Week 2 IDP Waiver Wire Pickups
Defensive Back
Kentrell Brice, SS, Green Bay Packers (70 snaps/100%)
I wrote up Brice as a matchup play last week and he didn't disappoint. It does look like he's solidified the SS spot, as Josh Jones didn't appear in a snap. Brice recorded a 12.9 percent tackle rate, resulting in nine tackles and a sack. With injuries hitting, I think you can add him and plug him in as a weekly DB2.
Ricardo Allen, SS, Atlanta Falcons (72 snaps/100%)
Unfortunately, Keanu Neal is lost for the season and he's not coming back. The buzz has seen Damontae Kazee taking over his spot at SS, but I think it's Allen who'll get the first crack. He played 72 snaps at the strong-side and Kazee only appeared in 35 snaps. Allen recorded five tackles and a defended pass. If you're in a deeper league where you're trying to replace Neal, I might consider Allen this week.
Shawn Williams, SS, Cincinnati Bengals (13 snaps/16%)
Well, Williams' first game didn't go as planned. He got tossed for a pretty violent hit on Andrew Luck. I'm usually quick to defend the defensive side of the ball, but I had no issue with it. Unfortunately, he only saw 13 snaps. I wouldn't worry too much about Clayton Fejedelem, as he was a fill-in for Williams. Williams is worth adding as a DB3 or for bench depth in deeper leagues.
Clayton Geathers, SS, Indianapolis Colts (56 snaps/100%
There hasn't been any doubt of Geathers as a talent at safety—it's always been a question of health. Geathers entered the 2018 season healthy and got his job back. He was on the field for all 55 snaps and notched seven solo tackles, resulting in a 12.7 percent tackle rate. He's playing near the box, so he'll be in good position to make plays. Geathers has DB2 upside going forward.
