The Training Room: Week 5 Injury Updates

Player | Position | Team | Injury |

---|---|---|---|---|---|---|
Randall Cobb | WR | Packers | Strained Hamstring | RULED OUT FOR WEEK 5 | Marquez Valdes-Scantling, Ty Montgomery | Cobb will miss two weeks in a row now with a hamstring issue. He's no guarantee for Week 6 either given that he doesn't seem close to returning to practice in any capacity. It sounds like the hamstring injury he's dealing with is more significant which could keep him sidelined until the Packers feel comfortable having him back out there. |
Leonard Fournette | RB | Jaguars | Strained Hamstring Re-aggravation | RULED OUT FOR WEEK 5 | T.J. Yeldon | Remember when Fournette and Coach Marrone both said that they didn't think Fournette wasn't going to miss much time after Week 1? Well now we're looking at a re-aggravation to his hamstring issue since Week 1, which is not a good sign due to the fact that re-aggravations take longer to recover. I wouldn't expect Fournette back anytime soon as the Jaguars will ensure that he's 100 percent before he comes back. |
Lamar Miller | RB | Texans | Chest Pain | DOUBTFUL FOR SNF | Alfred Blue | Miller is dealing with a chest injury, and is questionable for Sunday Night Football. It sounds like it could be a cartilage or a rib issue that is currently too painful to try and play through. |
Giovani Bernard | RB | Bengals | Sprained MCL | RULED OUT WEEK 5, 2-4 week timetable | Joe Mixon, Mark Walton | Bernard is dealing with a sprained MCL which explains the recovery timetable of a few weeks. Due to the nature of Bernard's game, he'll really need to be as close to 100% to allow him to full maximize his skill set. |
Hayden Hurst | TE | Ravens | Fractured Foot | Questionable for Week 5 | Mark Andrews, Nick Boyle, Maxx Williams | Hurst is expected to make his debut in Week 5 after suffering a fractured foot in the preseason. I wouldn't expect the Ravens to give him a full workload but he could be worked into the offense relatively quickly. He's a solid stash at this point. |
Ted Ginn Jr. | WR | Saints | Sprained Knee | RULED OUT WEEK 5 | Cameron Meredith | Ginn has been dealing with knee issues that will apparently keep him out of Week 5. He hasn't been much of a factor in the Saints offense, so hopefully Meredith will step into his role and continue to see more usage each game moving forward. |
Davante Adams | WR | Packers | Strained Calf | Limited practice Saturday, GTD for Sunday | Marquez Valdes-Scantling, Ty Montgomery | Adam Schefter is reporting that Adams is expected to play barring any setbacks with warm-ups. Calf injuries can be tricky to manage so there is some concern for an in-game aggravation, but the Packers medical staff is usually conservative with their injuries so the fact that he's expected to play makes them feel confident in his ability to play. |
Dalvin Cook | RB | Vikings | Strained Hamstring | NOT EXPECTED TO PLAY WEEK 5 | Latavius Murray | Ian Rapoport reports that the Vikings aren't expecting Cook to play tomorrow to allow his hamstring to fully recover from the initial injury he sustained in Week 2. I think it's a smart move to allow Cook to regain his form and feel more confident heading into Week 6. |
Will Fuller | WR | Texans | Strained Hamstring | Questionable for Week 5 | Keke Coutee, Bruce Ellington | Fuller left Week 4 with a hamstring injury but he's been able to rehab it enough to be able to play for Week 5. Hamstrings can be troublesome and linger for speed guys like Fuller, so keep a close on eye on him as the game progresses. |
Geronimo Allison | WR | Packers | Concussion | Questionable for Week 5 | Marquez Valdes-Scantling, Ty Montgomery | Allison did not return to practice on Saturday so I would say that he's more doubtful than questionable, especially because he has not been cleared through the concussion protocol yet. |
Larry Fitzgerald | WR | Cardinals | Strained Hamstring | Questoinable for Week 5 | Christian Kirk | Fitzgerald was able to play through the hamstring issue last week and ended up with 7 targets from rookie QB Josh Rosen. I would still expect Fitz to play Week 5 barring any setbacks during the pregame warmups. |
Keke Coutee | WR | Texans | Strained Hamstring | Game time decision for Week 5 | Bruce Ellington | Coutee is going to try out his hamstring in pre-game and see how he feels. Ian Rapoport states that if he does play he's going to be playing with pain, which is less than ideal considering he's playing the Sunday night game. I would go with another option if you have one. |
Tyler Eifert | TE | Bengals | Broken Ankle | Out For Season | Tyler Kroft, C.J. Uzomah | Eifert's ankle injury will require surgery to likely put hardware not only in the ankle but he'll likely need the ligaments around the ankle re-stabilized as well. Those types of ankle fractures require extensive immobilization and then a lengthy rehab process so it's unfortunate to see a guy who was flashing his old self go down with this injury. |
O.J. Howard | TE | Buccaneers | Sprained MCL | 2-4 Weeks | Cameron Brate | Howard's MRI revealed an MRI sprain with the expected timetable to be around 2-4 weeks, much like Evan Engram. My guess is that he'll miss at least two games. Keep an eye on his status next week to see if he's able to start practicing in some capacity which will help give us a better idea of how he's progressing. |
John Ross | WR | Bengals | Strained Groin | RULED OUT FOR WEEK 5 | Tyler Boyd | Ross didn't make much progress this week and has been ruled out for Week 5. He'll be questionable at best for Week 6 depending on when he's able to return to practice. |
Marquise Goodwin | WR | 49ers | Strained Hamstring | Questionable for Week 5 | Pierre Garcon, Dante Pettis | Goodwin will be a game time decision to test not only the hamstting, but also the quadricep that he's originally been dealing with since the start of the season. Some reports have Goodwin at a 50/50 shot to play so even if he does suit up, it'd be hard to trust him. |
