Waiver Wire Watch: Week 16 Targets
We did it! We made it all the way to Week 16, you guys. Well, some of us did. Most of us, I hope. If you are still hanging in there, I have options for the four major positions with a focus on upside plays. I’m still giving you some floor guys as well, but if you’ve gotten this far, it isn’t terribly likely Jalen Richard is going to do much for you.
If your league plays into Week 17, leave it this off-season and find another. But as long as you are already there, I’ll be back next Monday with the final edition of Waiver Wire Watch this season. For those of you whose seasons end with Week 16, thanks for clicking and all the best to you as you try to bring home the gold.
Quarterbacks
- Josh Allen, 23% owned ($5)
- Lamar Jackson, 46% owned ($2)
- Case Keenum, 19% owned ($1)
Josh Allen, Buffalo Bills
For the fourth week in a row, Allen delivered for those of us brave enough to start him. In fact, he has been fantasy’s top-scoring quarterback over those four games. The run should continue another week as Buffalo gets a shot at the Patriots. New England has allowed the 10th most rushing yards (245) to quarterbacks this year despite seeing the third fewest carries (38). The Bills running back room is emptier than their playoff calendar, setting up Allen, who has run for 99 yards or a score in every game since Week 12, to be even more of a focal point for the offense than he already is.
Lamar Jackson, Baltimore Ravens
The Ravens have played perhaps the most cupcake schedule of defenses in NFL history since Jackson took over, helping him to a 17.6 PPG average as a starter. That puts him somewhere around fringe QB1 output, a fantastic accomplishment for a rookie. The biggest issue I’ve had with Jackson is his lack of upside, as he has scored between 15.9 and 20.2 points in each of his five starts. It’s hard to argue with the consistency, just don’t expect him to come out and win you a championship on his own this week against a Chargers defense that, according to aFPA, is among the best in the league against quarterbacks.
Case Keenum, Denver Broncos
I hesitated to stick Keenum in here mostly because he is bad. How bad? The veteran has scored between 8.2 and 15.6 points in each of the last eight games. Will that change against the Raiders this week? I doubt it, but there are so few attractive streaming options, his matchup made him stand out as a potential option for deep leagues.
