C.J. Spiller will get the lion’s share of the work with the first unit in tonight’s preseason game with Indianapolis, but what you see from him tonight is not going to be anything close to how he’ll be used in the regular season.
Head coach Chan Gailey admitted as much as he plans to have Spiller execute a lot of the offense’s basic one back run plays. Here was his response when asked if Spiller will be used in the many different ways it’s anticipated he’ll be utilized come the regular season.
“Not really,” said Gailey. ”I think he’s going to get a lot of good reps that he needs to get because he missed I think nine practices in training camp. He’s going to get some good reps, but there will be a lot more diversity from him as time goes on in his offense.”
