The Chicago Bears waived LBs Tim Shaw, Kelvin Smith, and Kevin Malast.
Shaw led the Bears with a franchise-record 30 special-teams tackles last season. Kevin Malast, who started at middle linebacker and recovered a fumble against the Browns, told the Tribune in a text message that he has been released. Another linebacker released Friday was Kelvin Smith, a third-year player from Syracuse.
Wide receiver Freddie Barnes, an undrafted free agent who attended Homewood-Flossmoor and Bowling Green, was informed that he has been waived.
