2021 Rankings Breakdown: Wide Receivers
The receiver position continues to enjoy historical depth. I thought that perhaps there would be some contraction this season, but looking at the early projections and ADP, it looks like we’ll be able to put together a potent receiving corps even if we don’t start drafting receivers until the fourth round. This was essentially my plan in 2020–running backs and tight ends early, receivers in the middle rounds–and it worked out well.
I love drafting stud receivers as much as the next person, but when comparing receivers to running backs, position-wise, it’s pretty clear where the depth lies. Things get really dicey at running back starting in the fifth round, while there are confident and reliable receivers available well into the eighth round. This is a byproduct of the league’s overall movement towards the pass. There are simply more catches, yards and touchdowns available to receivers and that increases the position’s overall depth.
