2021 Mayakoba Championship: Round 3 Matchups
Through 13 holes in Friday's second round of the Mayakoba Championship, Matthew Wolff was 15-under with a five-shot lead. A couple of bogeys later, combined with a surge up the leaderboard by Scottie Scheffler has cut his lead to just two shots heading into the weekend. Scheffler had one of the rounds of the day, shooting a 7-under par 64. Behind him sit a couple of other young Tour stars in Viktor Hovland and Carlos Ortiz, both at 10-under. After those top four are a logjam of 17 players at either 8- or 9-under par. With the cut finishing at 4-under par, Brooks Koepka and last week's Bermuda Championship winner, Lucas Herbert, were among those to go home early. With so many golfers within five shots of the lead, it appears to be a wide-open race to the finish. The only real player within range to have decent value is Russell Henley (+4000) who is currently five shots back. He has a tendency to get off to fast starts in the third round and is definitely a name to jump on tomorrow if he opens with a few birdies.
