Tyrion Davis-Price listed fourth on depth chart

San Francisco 49ers running back Tyrion Davis-Price is listed as the fourth-string running back on the team's initial unofficial depth chart.

Fantasy Impact:

There have been some high hopes for the rookie's potential role this season, and this initial depth chart listing should not discourage deep leaguers from keeping him on their cheat sheet. Team's often list rookies low on the initial depth charts in an effort to make them 'earn' their roles. The most recent example is the Atlanta Falcons listing Drake London as fifth string on their initial depth chart. Davis-Price has an excellent opportunity to carve out a consistent role in a committee with Elijah Mitchell and Jeff Wilson but will need to show more in the passing game. The early reports out of camp suggest that undrafted rookie Jordan Mason has been more impressive as a receiver out of the backfield. Davis-Price will need to impress during the preseason to avoid being stuck behind Wilson and Hasty in the battle for touches not given to Mitchell. The rookie remains an upside bye-week filler type who could come on strong as the season progresses. The depth chart listing, coupled with the reports out of camp, is a reminder that he does indeed have some depth chart climbing to do, despite his third-round draft capital. Davis-Price is currently our 69th-ranked running back.
