By releasing Quinn Ojinnaka earlier in the week, the New England Patriots set free one of their most versatile offensive linemen. Soon, they will likely welcome back another.
Guard Nick Kaczur, who underwent surgery to relieve back pain in mid-August, is close to returning. A starting right tackle for the previous five seasons, Kaczur had been slated to replace disgruntled left guard Logan Mankins before his injury on the second day of camp.
"Nick’s obviously a lot closer to being back than he was two months ago," New England head coach Bill Belichick said. "We still have a lot of football left. We’ll see how it goes. We’re a little further along."
Kaczur’s return would be a boost for the offensive line, as the original thought was that his back problem would end his season.
