Fantasy Football Waiver Wire Watch Week 9: A Likely Replacement at Tight End
As a refresher, The Drop List consists of players who are rostered in at least 50% of Yahoo leagues and are no longer must-have assets, recommended additions are available in over 50% of Yahoo leagues, the Watch List contains in-depth notes on fringe waiver adds, and Deep Cuts includes player notes on those rostered in 5% or fewer of Yahoo and FFPC leagues.
The Drop List
-
QB: Russell Wilson
-
TE: David Njoku
There is no need to hold Russell Wilson in leagues where Justin Fields is still available since it’s the former who returned from his “partially torn hamstring” against the Jaguars for yet another finish outside the top 15 at his position. Wilson currently sits as the QB23 in fantasy points per game.
Darrell Henderson returned from Los Angeles’ bye with season-lows in snaps (26%) and route participation (34%), handling just 26% of backfield touches to Ronnie Rivers’ 52% share. With Kyren Williams (ankle) expected to cannibalize this backfield further, there is no need to hang onto Henderson on thin benches.
J.K. Dobbins is expected to miss “4-6 weeks” following arthroscopic knee surgery. Already limited in his first attempt to return to the field, there’s no need to envision Dobbins as a viable fantasy asset in 2022 since his timeline keeps him sidelined until after the fantasy playoffs.
The Saints have egregiously handled Michael Thomas’ toe injury from the start, seeing him sit four games without being placed on injured reserve. With “no timetable” or participation in practice since he initially suffered the injury in Week 3, Thomas can be separated from six-man benches where plugging for the Byemageddon takes priority.
Darnell Mooney was fringe-viable even before the Chase Claypool trade, averaging 5.5 targets (55th among all wide receivers) with zero top-24 finishes as the WR73 in fantasy points per game. Claypool's arrival renders Mooney's outlook to the poor man's version of Marquez Valdes-Scantling.
Initially diagnosed with a “2-5 week” high-ankle sprain, there’s no guarantee David Njoku returns in Week 10 following Cleveland’s bye, let alone produces in his first game back. I would move on for Dulcich long-term wherever applicable and don’t mind dropping Njoku for help at another position, anyhow.
