If the Panthers lose and slip to 0-5, there could be rumblings next week of putting several stars on the trading block. How about injured WR Steve Smith to the Patriots? And with RB DeAngelo Williams in the final year of his contract, do the Panthers want to sign him to a long-term deal or trade him? Williams would be the perfect back for the Packers because he can run and catch very well out of the backfield.
Panthers owner Jerry Richardson, whose sons are no longer working for the team, doesn’t have any long-term plans in place with both coach John Fox and GM Marty Hurney in the last year of their contracts. You almost wonder if Richardson is looking for a buyer for his franchise, or possibly a part-owner.
