The Packers had been hoping No. 2 tight end Donald Lee (chest) would be able to play against the Dolphins, who are coming off a bye week and are in virtual 100 percent health.

McCarthy did say that Lee, who practiced on a limited basis, was a “nice surprise” after suffering his injury against the Redskins. Lee, who scored the Packers’ only touchdown, was initially injured on his fumble on the second play of the game – the same play on which Finley was injured – but stayed in the game until after his touchdown catch.

“I’m optimistic (about Lee) based on what I saw on the (practice) field. He went out there and practiced, and that was a nice surprise,” McCarthy said. “That was one player that was going in the right direction. It was good to see that."
