Week 8 IDP Waiver Wire: Pickups & Targets (Fantasy Football 2023)
The good news is that Week 8 is a bye-free week. The bad news is that we got punched in the face with some injuries to key defenders. The biggest name is Nick Bolton as he suffered a dislocated wrist that will cause him to miss quite some time.
Injuries are the name of the game, so it's time to go waiver hunting and see what gems we can unearth. Heading into Week 8, here are your targets on IDP waiver wires.

Linebackers
David Mayo, LB, Washington Commanders
Sounds like Cody Barton suffered a high ankle sprain in the early going, which limited him to a handful of snaps. David Mayo came on to replace him.
The linebacker room in Washington is ugly, especially if you look at Pro Football Focus (PFF) grades. There’s not much depth here, so Mayo is a body that’s going to get snaps. He saw 41 snaps, and while he struggled in coverage, he was a solid tackler and made stops in the run.
As Cris Collinsworth would say, “Now here’s a guy.” That’s it. He’s a guy. Mayo saw two snaps in Week 6, and that’s been his only action on the defensive side, as he’s been a special teamer. He’s not like Joe Mayo and going to assign his teammates additional duties like he’s hosting a party.
Here, he makes a solid tackle as he breaks off the block and gets to Saquon Barkley:
Mayo finished with a 22% tackle rate, resulting in nine tackles, and was credited with just one miss. He’s not going to wow you with big plays, so he’s more of an asset in tackle-heavy leagues. Mayo’s average depth of tackle was 7.4 yards—only because he had two tackles of 20+ yards past the line of scrimmage (LOS).
Jamin Davis was the LB to wear the dot, so if he’s available, he’s first priority. Mayo should see between 75%-80% of the snaps while Barton is sidelined.
