SF Chronicle: 49ers QB Alex Smith didn't say much Wednesday after
finally agreeing to talk to the media. He did say that he knew he
would have to take a paycut next season to stay. He also said it
would be difficult to reinvent himself with the 49ers. "I think
everything (would be difficult)," Smith said when asked if fans
would accept him. "When you come with that kind of expectation,
it's frustrating for me that it hasn't come to fruition. Obviously
with the fans as well, kind of part of the territory. I absolutely
think it might be harder." Smith hasn't thrown a football yet, but
he expects to be ready for spring drills, whether here or with
another team.
