After admiring his talents from afar, the Titans are eager to see Randy Moss up close - and in a Tennessee uniform.
As they closed out their bye week work on Thursday and await Moss' Monday arrival, players and coaches alike sounded excited to add Moss - whom they claimed off waivers from the Minnesota Vikings on Wednesday.
Thursday's practice was closed to the media, and reaction to Moss' acquisition was distributed via the Titans' media relations staff.
“I was really excited about the signing,” fullback Ahmard Hall said. “Randy Moss is a legend in this game, and the Titans aren’t really known for making too many big splashes. I think it’s going to bring a lot of energy to this town, a lot of energy to this team.”
Running back Chris Johnson, who has faced plenty of eight-man fronts this season, figures to benefit as much as anyone from Moss' arrival. He, too, recalled watching Moss on TV as a youngster and appears honored to have the chance to be a teammate of the 33-year-old receiver.
“My wish just came true. I’m very excited. That’s a guy we grew up watching,” Johnson said. “We named jump balls after him. When somebody goes up and gets one, it’s named after him. We call it ‘getting a Moss.’ So I’m very excited about the situation, to play with a guy like that, and I’m very excited that he’ll back some of those guys out of the box. I know for a fact they can’t put all those guys in the box with that guy out there.”
As we talked about here at 4for4 yesterday, Chris Johnson stands to gain the most from this pickup and the Titans probably realize that. Johnson has struggled this year as teams have really focused on shutting him down. Moss replaces the emerging Britt for now, but will definitely force teams to pay attention to the passing game.
