On a day when most everything went bad, there was a wonderful sign, a heartening scene in the Colts' locker room.
There was Austin Collie, walking casually.
"You OK?" I asked him.
"Yeah, yeah, I'm fine," he said.
At which point, the Polian men, Bill and Chris, reacted like I'd accosted the president and angrily told security people to keep the player away from the media.
When it happened, when Collie went down and lay on the turf looking lifeless for what seemed like an eternity, you thought the worst. "I thought about Eric LeGrand from Rutgers," Gary Brackett said, referring to the paralyzed player at his alma mater. "You just sit there and send up prayers."
