Not only is Williams back with Martz, who he had a 1,310-yard season playing for in Detroit in 2006, he's back together with wide receivers coach Darryl Drake, who coached him at the University of Texas. The two men have a close relationship. It all added up to make it an easy decision for Williams, who is looking to reinvigorate his career after he was a trade bust for Jerry Jones and the Cowboys.
In the last three seasons in Dallas, Williams had 94 receptions for 1,324 yards and 13 touchdowns. That's not far off from what he did in one season under Martz. As one scout said, when the offense is consistently pumping the ball to Williams, he can be terrific. When he starts to get lost in the game plan, he can begin to stray.
Never short on talent, Williams has been a frustrating player for fantasy owners, but he couldn't have landed in a better spot to revive his career. His ADP has been on life support all summer, but he may very well get WR1 targets in Chicago and that makes him an interesting pick in the middle rounds. He's just 29 years old, and had a three-game stretch last season where he caught 14 passes for 232 yards and five TDs. It sounds as if the Bears intend to use him early and often.
