Cardinals safety Adrian Wilson will bypass surgery for a torn right biceps tendon, in hopes that it will heal in time for the team's Sept. 11 opener against the Carolina Panthers.

Wilson's decision generated praise from teammates. After all, the four-time Pro Bowl selection is counted on to anchor a secondary that just lost Dominique Rodgers-Cromartie in last month's trade for Kevin Kolb.

Cardinals coach Ken Whisenhunt acknowledged that Wilson's return hinges on his condition, “But we do expect him to play for us this season,” he told the team's official site on Monday. “That’s one thing that is encouraging.”
