Oakland Raiders wide receiver Chaz Schilens sprained his knee in the Raiders preseason opener and will be evaluated on a week-to-week in the latest setback in his injury plagued career.

Schilens limped off the field early Thursday against Arizona and coach Hue Jackson announced the diagnosis after practice on Saturday.

Schilens had participated in every previous practice in training camp in a major turnaround from his past two summers. After appearing ready to be a breakout receiver with a strong start to training camp in 2009, Schilens broke his foot in a joint practice with San Francisco. He missed the first eight games of the season, before catching 29 passes for 365 yards and two touchdowns in the final half of the season.

But Schilens wasn’t completely healthy and needed surgery in the offseason that lingered through training camp last summer. Schilens was limited early in camp and then injured his knee as he compensated for his sore foot. He missed the first 11 games last season and didn’t catch his first pass until the second-to-last game of the season.
