Washington Redskins head coach Mike Shanahan all but anointed Tim Hightower as his starting running back for the Sept. 11 season opener against the New York Giants, a result both of Hightower’s performance in the first three preseason games and the inability of Ryan Torain to play yet because of a broken bone in his hand.

"He’s done a good job," Shanahan said of Hightower on Saturday. "I’m not going to say he’s our starter, but if you were betting in Vegas, you’d probably go in that direction."

Hightower has carried 25 times for 170 yards and two touchdowns since being acquired in a trade with the Arizona Cardinals at the start of training camp.

Fantasy Impact:

Hightower has gone from fantasy afterthought in Arizona to being on the minds of many fantasy owners as a mid-round sleeper. The downside is that Mike Shanahan changes his depth chart frequently and Roy Helu and Ryan Torain could cut into Hightower's upside, but for now, Hightower is worth a gamble on draft day.
