Cardinals running back Beanie Wells was close to playing, coach Ken Whisenhunt said, but the Cardinals didn't want to risk a setback. If Wells had aggravated the injury and missed the next three games, it would have been a lousy decision, Whisenhunt said. The coach is hopeful that Wells and LaRod Stephens-Howling (hand) will play this week against the Giants.

That said, those of us outside the organization rarely know the full truth about injuries. If Wells participates in all of practice Wednesday through Friday, then I'll be fairly sure he's playing. But I'm guessing he'll at least be limited. Wells said today that he will definitely play against the Giants. But we heard that last week, too, before the Seahawks game.
