The season has come to an end for Dallas Cowboys running back Phillip Tanner.
The rookie free agent was placed on injured reserve with a hamstring injury.
Tanner impressed the coaching staff from the start of training camp with his ability to pick up the playbook and his assertive running style. An injury to third round pick DeMarco Murray gave Tanner an early opening, and he made the most of the opportunity.
Tanner had 22 carries for 76 yards and one touchdown this season. He caught two passes for another 19 yards and had three tackles on special teams.
The injury means that Murray and Felix Jones are the only running backs on the team's active roster.
