The running back position has changed quite a bit for the Cowboys in the last few days. A unit that DeMarco Murray made a team strength, has been decimated by injuries and forced to search the waiver wire for depth.
After moving Murray to the IR with a broken ankle, the Cowboys added veteran runner Sammy Morris on Tuesday, meaning playoff hopes rest on the shoulders of a Felix Jones / Morris backfield.
“He knows the offense, and his ability to block and do the kinds of things away from the ball, not just as a running back, that can be productive running,” Cowboys owner and general manager Jerry Jones said of Morris Tuesday on 105.3 The Fan (KRLD-FM).
While Morris will be the backup, Jerry Jones expects Felix Jones to takeover Murray’s role as the team’s workhorse back.
