The Patriots reached back into their past yesterday and re-signed RB Patrick Pass. Pass played in New England from 2000 to 2006 and won three Super Bowl rings as a versatile reserve back and special teams contributor. The 5-foot-10-inch, 217-pound Pass joins a crowded backfield that includes Laurence Maroney, Fred Taylor, Kevin Faulk, Sammy Morris, Benjarvus Green-ellis, and Eric Kettani. He gives the team a veteran player capable of playing FB, something it lacked without Heath Evans, who moved on to New Orleans. The 31-year-old Pass was out of football last season. He left the Patriots following the 2006 season, which he ended on injured reserve with a hamstring ailment, and signed with the Texans, who cut him coming out of training camp. He then hooked on with the Giants in November 2007, but was released after playing in one game.
