Buccaneers DE Da'Quan Bowers, the team's second-round selection in the 2011 draft, tore his right Achilles tendon while working out on the field at One Buc Place on Thursday.

Bowers is scheduled to have surgery to repair the tear today, the team announced.

Despite the possibility he could be lost for the season, Bowers expressed confidence he'll return to play in 2012.
