Eagles running back Dion Lewis seems to have the edge as backup running back to LeSean McCoy. Lewis took some first team reps as well as second team reps on Thursday, Aug. 2, at Eagles training camp
Lewis saw limited action last season as the backup to McCoy, sharing time with Ronnie Brown. Rookie seventh round pick Bryce Brown could eventually be in the mix for work, but for now seems etched into the Eagles RB3 role.
The team claims to want to cut into McCoy's workload, and Lewis getting first team chances in camp may certainly be a sign they are sticking to that. However, both Lewis and Brown have a lot to prove, and neither looked really good in pass protection drills. That should mean McCoy still gets third down, passing situation snaps, given he is an excellent blocker and receiver.
