Ryan Mathews leaves game with shoulder injury

San Diego Chargers running back Ryan Mathews took one carry in Thursday night's preseason opener against the Green Bay Packers and left with a shoulder injury, according to Scott Bair of The North County Times. Mathews gained 5 yards.

It's only one carry and one preseason game, but this has to worry the Chargers. It's a reminder how quickly the best-laid plans can be changed. The Chargers are very thin at running back behind Mathews with Ronnie Brown and Curtis Brinkley next in line.

Fantasy Impact:

Mathews was only slated for one series of work, so it's hard to say how much to take from his not returning to the game. If this turns out to be anything serious, Mathews will fall in the rankings and further cloud the first round running back picture.
