Although Jets QB Mark Sanchez has been extremely accurate in his eight preseason drives, it’s difficult to gauge his development through the first preseason games. Sanchez has completed 76.5 percent (13 for 17) of his passes. But he’s only amassed 80 passing yards. That 4.7 yards-per-attempt average would have ranked him last in the NFL last season.
On Saturday, Sanchez only managed 59 yards of 9 of 11 passing and a pick-six. The Jets need to stretch the field in Tony Sparano’s run-first offense if it’s going to be successful. Sanchez had a league-low two completions for 40+ yards last season.
“Clearly we want to make bigger chunks down the field and I think there were a couple of those out there (on Saturday),” Ryan admitted on Monday. “We left a few out there. Overall, I’ve been happy with the way Mark is throwing the football."
