Darren Sproles won't play until Week 1

The plan for New Orleans Saints running back Darren Sproles to return to game action after missing the last two games with a knee injury doesn't appear to be at any point in the preseason.

Despite going through limited portions of practice the past two days, interim coach Joe Vitt re-affirmed his stance that the shifty playmaker won't play in Saturday night's preseason game against the Houston Texans. There appears to be no reason for Sproles to take any preseason games snaps the next two weeks as Vitt said he's fine with Sproles not touching the field until Week 1 against the Redskins.

Sproles hasn't fully practiced since injuring his knee during the preseason loss to the Patriots on Aug. 9. He didn't practice at all last week, but has been limited the last two days going through individual drills. Sproles said being ready to play against Washington is his primary goal even though he feels nearly completely healthy.

"If I had to play, I could," Sproles said. "But this is the thing. They don't want to rush me right now. They see it as preseason games so there's no use in risking it."

Fantasy Impact:

No worries here, the team has the situation under control. Draft Sproles with confidence, especially in PPR leagues where he is an excellent value in the 2nd round.
