With the September 9 season opener at Minnesota just 11 days away, it’s starting to look like Jaguars RB Maurice Jones-Drew intends to extend this impasse into the regular season. Unless he reports by Monday, that’s exactly where this appears to be headed.

It’s hard to know whether Jones-Drew or his agent, Adisa Bakari, is driving this holdout, but the only leverage they have remaining is for the Jaguars to lose games and hope the team starts panicking about having their star still absent. That’s not exactly a way to build team harmony.

At this point, the best hope to end this stalemate is for Jones-Drew or Bakari to cut their losses, which includes a maximum fine that is now over $1 million.
