Vikings coach Leslie Frazier said on Thursday night that RB Adrian Peterson will "probably be a game-time decision" on Sept. 9 as the team continues to evaluate his recovery from left knee reconstruction.
"We've got a lot of things we want to get done with him this week," Frazier said. "I doubt that we would know without getting him through an entire week if we thought he were ready to play in a football game. We need to take him through some more things this week."
Practice resumes on Monday at Winter Park. Players are off on Tuesday, meaning Peterson has four practices to prove to coaches he's ready for a game situation.
Frankly, this is a little disappointing after all the talk of progress in the preseason. But Peterson owners can't say they weren't warned -- what he is trying to do, coming back 100% so quickly after ACL surgery, is unprecedented. We'll know on game day what to do with Peterson, but it's hard to bench him if his active. For fantasy owners, it will depend on what other options are available. The Vikings play at 1 PM Eastern on Sunday, so at least it's not a late game.
