After last week’s heroic performance in New York, when he played only three weeks after suffering a lacerated spleen, there would be no reason to doubt Jason Witten’s availability in Week 2 against Seattle and onward.
But just because he made it through the Giants game and is expected to play against the Seahawks doesn’t mean he has to risk himself too much on the practice field this week.
Witten had been listed as limited throughout practice in preparation for the Giants game, not participating in team drills or engaging in any contact, and was listed as doubtful on the week’s final injury report. However, after he was cleared for contact by doctors Tuesday night, he was allowed to play in the game, catching two passes for 10 yards.
The Cowboys won’t have to release a participation report until Wednesday, when they traditionally practice in pads. It's still possible Witten sits out the only full-contact session of the week.
